So, the old tv screen, huh? Is it possible to make them less unattractive? They can be such black holes in a room – sucking the oxygen out of the space and throwing the rest of the room off, so it is possible to have one (because who can survive without them, right?) and for it to blend into the scheme?
Yup, is the short answer! And, here’s how:
- Hidden tv screen! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! It looks and acts like a mirror until you turn the telly on. Then it simply screens through the mirror looking like any normal tv! They come in a range of finishes and are custom made to fit your particular screen. But, they don’t come cheap. Last time I checked a small tv screen size was over $2000 – which is often alot more than the telly itself. The one pictured below is by tvframes.com.au
2) Blend it in! Paint the wall behind it a dark colour and hey presto, it’ll just disappear when it’s turned off. And, if you add something else interesting on the wall, it will draw the eye away from the tv and become the feature!
4) Share focal points! TVs above fireplaces seem to work perfectly – I think it’s because they’re both focal points. We are drawn to fire and we’re drawn to tv screens, so these harmonise with each other and make sense in a room
5) Go counter intuitive and make it a feature! Often something a bit quirky or left of field works wonderfully simply because of its unique approach to an age old interiors problem! There are heaps of ways of doing this but I really liked this one – using an artist’s easel! This approach also works well for small interiors as you don’t need a bulky media stand to house it.
