This year, I’ve been working on a lovely project in ‘the Shire’ – in SYdney’s southern, beachy and green suburbs. A lovely couple asked for help with their bathrooms and some windows. Well, as in most interior design projects, once you start making some parts of the house look lovely and new, the rest starts to look a wee bit shabby, so you end up doing more than you originally planned/expected. So it was with this project – we ended up doing the whole house! And to give credit to the clients – they let me ‘go’ with the concept, which they loved and were brave enough to execute! Was thrilling, I have to say.
One of the key things we did was to totally reimagine the downstairs space. Originally, it consisted of a ‘gym’, spare damp bedroom and a crumbly leaky bathroom. Basically, the clients spent as little time as they could downstairs! WHat a lost opportunity, I thought! So, I suggested we get rid of the gym stuff (which they happily conceded they did’nt use or love) and convert this whole area into a sort of parents’ retreat consisting of a generous master bedroom, walk in robe and shiny new ensuite. They LOVED the idea!
So, with that, I worked on a palette, finishes, layout….the works. It was a hoot. I loved every minute of it! We had a seriously fantastic builder who uncovered some pretty dangerous aspects to the current building and set about righting them (including addressing that damp problem!) and finally after so many months, we’re almost there. The clients have moved in, the artworks are up and we’re now just waiting on a few finishing touches and it’ll be complete.
I’ll be posting some new photos in a few weeks time, and a video of before and afters, but to give a hint of the extent of the transformation, here’s the gym-to-master…..what do yu think?
