I have a precious little girl who – along with her older brother – are the light of my life. She’s healthy, creative and has the most entertaining take on life that is both refreshing and thought provoking at times. She loves playing with the little girls at school and that live next door to us. But she hates the overly frilly and fussy pinks and purples that seem to be shoved in front of little girls that age. And quite frankly, so do I. Well, I don’t hate it….I just find it so cliched.
So a few years ago, I changed my daughter’s room to navy and white and it looked great! Then we moved, and we tweaked it to blues and greens which she absolutely loves (photos coming soon!). And it got me thinking about this gender neutral approach. I notice it (or the lack of it) everywhere. Toys in stores are categorised and labeled as ‘boys’ and ‘girls’; people give pink gifts for the arrival of a girl and blue for boys. It’s annoying, boring and ho hum.
So, enough of my soapbox! Here are some of my favourite gender-neutral rooms – which one(s) do you like? Aren’t they adorable and refreshing! So easy to achieve too – neutral palette and rich in texture. Or bold black and whites with pops of yellow or green.
